Sharyn Lock is SKDT’s new Climate Action Development Officer, and is getting to work on building the trust and partner Inspiralba’s Kintyre Climate Action project.
Sharyn talked about her experience in activism down the years – across three continents – and her hopes for the Kintyre community around climate action.
Sharyn explained: “I started out in Australia nearly 30 years ago, and have ended up in Kintyre mainly via Yorkshire.
“My father had me watching documentaries from a young age, and my mother brought me up with the principle that if you see something that needs doing, you should get on and do it.
“That combination meant I have been involved in ecological campaigning and human rights work since my teens, including a whole range of climate action, starting from before we even called it climate action.
“I am particularly inspired by communities taking collective action together, and spent many years in community development work before training as a midwife.
“I still catch babies occasionally.
“Newborn babies have very serious expressions, which always give me the feeling they think we should be managing their world better, and they may have a point.
“I am looking forward to exploring, as part of the Kintyre Climate Action team, what positive steps towards a sustainable future might look like, here in this beautiful bit of Scotland.”
