Rooting For Each Other

SKDT brings people together from every background to grow seeds into plants which are taken away to be nurtured. We have worked with schools, scouts, Elderberries, Woodlands and volunteers to take part.

Dalintober school children   Cub Scout Group

We show them how to plant and look after their seeds and provide them with ongoing support and encouragement. When the seedlings have germinated and are ready to be planted out we come together to fill baskets and planters for distribution around the town creating a floral feast for local people and visitors to enjoy. The objectives of this project are to:

  • Develop a sense of community and create positive interaction between generation
  • Increase local pride
  • Improve people’s health and wellbeing and give them a sense of purpose
  • Reduce social isolation
  • Improve the Town Centre and surrounding areas
  • Help the environment

Elderberries

SKDT see community regeneration as more than an economic measure and will continue to work to create opportunities for people to gain skills, experience and employment that lead to increased self-confidence and an optimistic attitude that is contagious within the community, contributing to a vibrant, sustainable future.

The seeds of today are the flowers of tomorrow!
