Campbeltown Gateway Garden

Campbeltown Gateway Garden

A vacant lot opposite Park Terrace, has been transformed from a waste ground into a marine-themed garden thanks to the hard work of a team of volunteers, supported by South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT).

Community Landscape Projects

SKDT worked with Campbeltown Community Orchard and Garden (CCOG), Argyll and Bute Council Adult Learning, Kintyre Youth Enquiry Service (KYES) and Argyll College UHI to design and construct the Gateway to Campbeltown providing visitors and tourists with a delightful first impression.

Additional volunteers came from the Third Sector Interface, Addaction, Employability and the Department of Work and Pensions and more recently we have been joined by Campbeltown Grammar Learning Support Team.

The project was made possible thanks to funding and support from Stalled Spaces Scotland, Tesco Greenspace, Argyll and Bute Council and the Voluntary Action Fund.

Stalled Spaces

In July 2015 SKDT were awarded Argyll and Bute Council stalled spaces grant of £2,500. This project supported by Argyll & Bute Council is part of Stalled Spaces Scotland, a Legacy 2014 programme inspired by Stalled Spaces Glasgow, supported by Architecture and Design Scotland and the Scottish Government

Tesco Greenspace

In February 2016 SKDT was selected to receive one of three awards in the Tesco Bags of Help Initiative. On 16th march secured 2nd place giving us an award of £10,000. This funding made lots more possible on the site. We were able to landscape the area and lay borders of soil and plants, build a lighthouse and buy a large storage shed.
