SKDT have been successful in their bid to the Big Lotteries Investing in Ideas fund to carry out research into the potential for a self storage facility in Kintyre.

The work is currently being tendered and the resulting report will be completed by December 2010 at the latest

Specifications of contract

The Development Trust has received funding from Investing in Ideas to carry out research into the potential for setting up a self storage facility in the South Kintyre Area.

The work is detailed below and a report is to be completed by December 2010 within a budget of £7,000.

1. The need for storage space both commercial and domestic,
- Large/medium/small businesses
- Social enterprises/voluntary groups
- Long term/short term users
- Requirements of commercial and domestic users
2. Potential buildings suitable for purpose,
- Requirements based on needs (floor space, air conditioning, access, etc.)
- List of buildings that meet requirements (each building should be scored according to its fitness for purpose.)
3. Requirements for a self storage facility,
- Access, staffing, equipment, building alterations, ...
- Pricing structure
- Management structure
4. Costs involved in fitting out a building,
- Cost of kitting out 3 most suitable buildings to meet requirements
5. Potential income.
- Business case for the proposal based on feedback from potential clients
- Next steps Potential grant funders
6.Potential funders
- Grant funding opportunities
- Loan funding opportunities
