Tidal workshop makes waves

The South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) held a workshop on tidal energy at the Aqualibrium Leisure Centre in Campbeltown on the 28th of April. The workshop was well attended and enjoyed by members of the development trust and interested parties. Consultants, Aquamarine Power, facilitated the workshop that included information on the potential for exploiting the tidal resource in Sound of Sanda to produce energy.

The results of the study showed that there is an exploitable resource within the Sound of Sanda and there is good potential for development to take place. The trust will meet on the 11th of May to discuss how to progress the project.

The project forms part of SKDT's Community Powerdown project that aims to reduce the communities carbon footprint and aid sustainability. The workshop was carried out to raise awareness and build capacity within the local community to enable the project to be progressed. Funding from the Climate Challenge Fund enabled SKDT to carry out the feasibility study and the workshop.

The final results of the study will also be available on this website and will be on display at an Environmental Fair to be held in late June.
